Seals Cup 2023: Field day for Education as KHE, ASSE go top of Group H
IBADAN (Made In Africa Sport): Kinetic Health Education (KHE) made the headlines in UI on Sunday, 8 October 2023, as they asserted dominance over Public Health in an entertaining 3 – 1 encounter. Sunday was not to be a fixture date for the Seals Cup, but the recent weather conditions necessitated some games to be moved to Sunday.
Arts and Social Sciences Education (ASSE) also scraped a 1 – 0 win over Computer Science to go top of the table with four points.
KHE started the match in full control, winning a penalty that Moses Etana duly converted to put his side ahead. The team danced around the Public Health defense, forcing them out of position as the KHE forwards sought to add more to their lead.
The second goal for KHE came right out of nothing, as striker Tobi attempted a superb dipping shot from over 20 yards. The Public Health goalie couldn’t deal with the shot effectively, tipping it onto the crossbar, and the ball bounced behind the goal line to double KHE’s tally just before the break.
The second half resumed, and KHE looked too relaxed with their two-goal cushion. Public Health had sparks of hope for some time, creating chances and coming close to scoring more than once. The goal came after a freekick that was floated into the box fell for FK, who sorted his feet in time to slot his low shot under the KHE keeper, offering his team a lifeline against KHE.
There was no way back, however, as KHE rose from slumber after conceding and responded quickly. Daniel from KHE had a shot turned behind for a corner, and his cross was cleared only as far as Bade, who lined up an unstoppable effort destined for the top right corner on his left foot.
KHE striker Tolu could have made the scoresheet, but he couldn’t find the back of the net with his left-footed shot after a good run through the middle.
The second game between ASSE and Computer Science started with Computer Science seeing more of the ball and making runs into the ASSE half. Their final third activity was limited, though, and they were soon punished for their failure to create and convert better chances.
The ineffective possession game from Computer Science in the opening minutes allowed ASSE to grow into the game, and they soon started wreaking havoc in the Computer Science box. A brief scare preceded ASSE’s lone goal, ending with the Computer Science keeper gathering the ball before anyone could send it in.
Moments after, a freekick landed in the box, and the ASSE striker laid it on for Dave to stroke in from 15 yards. The Computer Science goalie could have done better, as he wasn’t quick enough to get down for that shot.
The second period saw Computer Science miss even more chances, as Ola missed a sitter, leaving the goal gaping after his attempted curler rolled off target. There were showers during the second half, and despite that, ASSE held on to their lead while giving a decent account of themselves with their performance.
Matchday three starts on Monday, 9 October 2023, as Geography takes on Educational Management in a knockout-stage-defining game.
