SWAN urges new commissioner to revive sports sector in Ogun
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, has encouraged the new Commissioner for Sports Development in the state, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, to swiftly initiate activities and initiatives that will drive overall sports development in the state.
Isiaka was sworn in along with 19 other commissioners and 22 special advisers at the Obas Complex, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday, October 13, 2023, to assist Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun in governing the state.

In a press release signed by SWAN Chairman Comrade Michael Azeez Ogunsiji and Secretary Olusegun Folarin, and made available to Made In Africa Sport, the association highlighted that his appointment is well-timed, especially as the state is preparing to host the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, known as “Gateway Games 2024.”
SWAN urged the Sports Commissioner to collaborate with key stakeholders in the sports industry to ensure that the state regains prominence on the world stage in the sports sector.
“We want to congratulate you on your recent appointment as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports. We hope that your tenure will bring the desired positive changes to the state’s sports scene.
“We encourage you to be open to ideas and suggestions from stakeholders that can enhance the sports sector in the Gateway State.”
The association expressed optimism that the sports commissioner would tap from the abundant talents in the sports sector and revive the dwindling fortune of the sector.
