NPFL: Mark Gibson excited for Liberia National team debut call-up

Theo Mark Gibson, the 18-year-old rising star of Rivers United, is buzzing with excitement following his maiden call-up to the Liberian national team.

The young winger, who has been instrumental in Rivers United’s success since joining last season, said the call-up is a dream come true.

“I was so happy when I got the call that I will be in the Lone Stars of Liberia squad during the international break,” Gibson said. “It’s one of my numerous dreams coming true in a limited time.”

Gibson, who joined Rivers United last year, has played a total of 14 games and registered two assists. He featured 25 minutes in Rivers’ 2-0 win against Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou to ensure their qualification for the 2023/2024 CAF Confederations Cup group stage.

He will be joining Rivers United teammate, Albert Korvah in the Liberian national team for their double-header in the international break, with a friendly against Libya on Saturday October 14 and an AFCON qualifier with Morocco on Tuesday October 17.

While Gibson will be aiming to make his debut for the Lone Stars after receiving his first call up, Albert Korvah will be seeking to add to his National team caps after featuring in the international friendly 1-3 loss to the Black Stars of Ghana at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on 12 September 2023.
