Match Preview: Akwa United set to battle inform Sporting Lagos in Uyo

Akwa United football club will play their first Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) home match on Sunday, 8 October 2023, as they prepare to battle Sporting Lagos at the Nest of Champions stadium in NPFL match day two.

The promise keepers started their NPFL campaign this season with a tragic defeat to Bayelsa United away from home, after the home side came from a 2:3 down to nail Akwa by 5 goals to 3.

However, the Fatai Osho side will be hoping to cement a good home start as they will face Sporting Lagos in Uyo.

Speaking ahead of the match, the head coach of the Promise Keepers, Fatai Osho said the team is prepared to win their home match against Sporting on Sunday to appease the hearts of the fans

” This is going to be our first home match in front of our fans and we know that they deserve the very best from us because we have enjoyed tremendous support and encouragement from the Pastor Umo Eno led government who have put everything at our disposal to guarantee a hitch free session ”

The NPFL Match day 2 encounter will be played on Sunday, 8th of October, 2023, at the Nest of Champions stadium, Uyo.

However, debut Sporting Lagos sealed their first league match with a victory following a 2:0 victory against Gombe United at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.

The noisy Lagosians as they are fondly called will have to battle Akwa United for the first time in a league match to announce their name to populated NPFL fans.

Speaking ahead of the match, Sporting Lagos head coach, Mr Paul Offor said that their victory in the first NPFL game is a morale booster for the debutante as they seek to make a mark against 2021 NPFL champions Akwa United

” Football is football. Thankfully, this isn’t our first NPFL game. We won last week, so the players know they can compete at this level. That’s a morale booster for us. We won’t be in front of our fans, but we know they’ll be cheering us on from Lagos. We will play for them.” Via sporting official club website

MATCH DAY TICKETS.

The Akwa United media team has announced that fans will be able to buy matchday tickets to see their favorite promise keepers begin their home NPFL campaign.

The match day tickets which will allow fans into the stadium are priced as N500 for the regular stands and N1000 for the VIP stands.

The match day tickets will be sold at the entrance to the stadium.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Akwa United and Sporting Lagos have previously met during the Naija Super-8 tournament 2023.

The debutante Sporting Lagos prevailed to the finals of the tournament and went on to win the highly rated tournament after defeating Akwa United by 2 goals to 1 in the Semi Finals.

Akwa will not just be battling for their first NPFL victory this season, they will also seek revenge.
