Seals Cup 2023: Computer Science exits Seals Cup after Grealish’s yellows

IBADAN (Made In Africa Sport) – Computer Science ended second in their group, winning their final fixture 2 -1 against Public Health. The Arts and Social Sciences Education team moved to the top position with a win over Faculty of Education rivals, Human Kinetics.

Their joy was short-lived in the Computer Science camp, as the Seals Cup FA discovered some irregularities in their lineups. Left winger Sodiq ‘Grealish’ Akinola was already on two yellow cards from his first two matches, one against Human Kinetics and one against Arts and Social Sciences Education.

According to the tournament rules, Grealish shouldn’t have been in the third game against Public Health, but he was fielded and scored a penalty to help his side to the knockout stages. Internal investigations revealed the irregular practices, and the Seals Cup FA disqualified the Computer Science team from the rest of the competition.

The Human Kinetics team is the direct beneficiary of the entire incident, as they will move to second place in the group and progress to the round of 16. They fell to a 2 – 1 defeat at the hands of Arts and Social Sciences Education, with striker DaviCruise putting on a brilliant show to send his team right into the knockouts.

The Human Kinetics side was wasteful in front of goal, with Moses Etana and Tobi missing out on golden chances to get the lead earlier in the game. Tommy finally notched one for the Human Kinetics team, but it was definitely too late to have any effect.

Philosophy asserted dominance over Adult Education, as they stamped their authority all over the pitch, especially in the first half. Brilliant positioning from Awolowo and John turned in goals in remarkable fashion to put Philosophy two goals ahead in the first half.

Adult Education could get one goal back later but couldn’t get more joy in the Philosophy box. A poor offside call against Adult Education led to a massive ruckus at the end of the match, but Philosophy players and fans didn’t mind it. Their last 16 spot is secure, and they go up next against Group A leaders Educational Management in the knockout stages.

MBBS steamrollered Mechanical Engineering in an interesting 4 – 0 encounter at SUB. The Group B leaders had little problems getting to business, as they netted four times in about 10 minutes to cancel any hope of coming back for the Mechanical Engineering team.

Jide scored a hat-trick in the game, moving up to four goals in the tournament. MBBS will look to get things done against Microbiology as the two teams face off in the round of 16.
