Lagos Liga: 30BG SC, Mavbrooks SC share spoils in opening Group B encounter

30BG and Mavbrooks played out a drab goalless draw in their opening Group B encounter of the Inaugural Lagos Liga played at the Campos Memorial Mini stadium.

The game between Mavbrooks FC and Davido’s boys saw an early substitution after Mavbrooks goalkeeper Maduagwu Chimeze sustained a knee injury very early in the game. Damilola Minant came on to replace his teammate whose injured knee had been strapped.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first real chance of the game came in the 13th minute when Kazeem Idowu was found by Agogo’s through ball. However, the 30BG forward was unable to trouble Damilola Minant from an acute angle.

30BG  produced their first shot at goal in the 15th minute when Bolutiife Stephen took a snapshot from just inside the penalty area. However, the effort was not enough to trouble goalkeeper Opeyemi Joshua in the 30BG goal. A minute later, Francis David tested the 30BG with a shot from way out, but the goalkeeper calmly made an easy save in the centre of his goal.

In the 25th minute of the game, Francis David received the first booking of the game while 30BG failed to trouble Damilola Minant from the resultant freekick.

Opeyemi Joshua pulled off a brilliant save to deny Lawal Abiodun the game’s opener in the 30th minute. Lawals further chance to test the goalkeeper from a free-kick went directly to the goalkeeper who made an easy save.

Opeyemi Joshua pulled off another brilliant save in the 32nd minute to deny Rexford the chance to win the game for his team. Ebube had driven through the 30BG midfield and played in a shot that came off two 30BG defenders and fell to Rexford whose header was saved by the goalkeeper.

The last chance of the game fell to Mavbrooks when Ebube’s 37th minute free kick went off target. At the end of 40 minutes, both teams were inseparable.

Both teams, having picked up one point each, had the chance to pick up another point via penalty shootout. At the end of the shootout, Mavbrooks claimed an extra point after emerging 3-2 winners.

The result puts Mavbrooks SC on top of Group B with 2 points while 30BG occupy second place with 1 point. Gular FC and Sporting Lagos Team, who are yet to play, occupy third and fourth place respectively.
