30BG Sports Club recorded their first-ever win in Lagos Liga against Sporting Lagos Fans Team at the Campos Memorial Mini Stadium on Monday, 9 December, 2024 after both teams failed to win in matchday one.

The team, named after popular musician, Davido’s 30 Billion Gang, got a chance to punish Sporting Lagos Fans Team 2-1 to set the path for a possible progression to the knockout stage of the inaugural Lagos Liga.

Two first-half goals from Toheeb Yisa and Uche Ezumoha were all they needed to grab maximum points before Sporting Lagos fans scored a consolation goal in the early minutes of the second half from Kashim Babatunde’s power strike.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams got on an early foot seeing what was at stake for them.

Sporting Lagos lost their first game to Gular FC 3-2 both during the regular time and penalties and two minutes into the game on Monday, they faced the same fate when 30BG started with an influx of attacking plays.

Kazeem Idowu headed a cross from Saheed Teslim towards goalkeeper Abdulganiyu Nafiu, who parried the ball to a corner.

The Davido boys continued to intensify for an opener as they earned the second corner in the game.

However, Sporting Lagos had their first shot in the sixth minute from Precious Esiri which deflected for their first corner and in a quick attacking switch, Uche Ezeomha couldn’t convert a one-on-one counter for 30BG in the eighth minute.

Meanwhile, 30BG goalkeeper Opeyemi Joseph parried an attempt from Sporting Lagos to keep the Islanders at bay.

Uche, having learnt from his earlier error, made good use of another counterattack from Felix Agogo to punish goalkeeper Nafiu before slotting the ball into an empty net for an opener in the ninth minute.

However, Sporting Lagos made a tactical substitution in the 12th minute to replace Lateef Owolabi for Morankinyo Emmanuel in a push for an equaliser.

30BG then doubled the lead in the five minutes after with Toheeb Yisa, having received a pass from Kazeem, slotting the ball past Nafiu.

With 30BG putting up the fight in the first half and dominating all through, there was a change of power in the second stanza of the game as their opponent Noisy Lagosians attempted to stage a comeback.

They first made a substitution in the second half with the introduction of centre-half, Afeez Ajao.

Ajao’s impact was felt instantly as he launched a long ball towards fellow substitute, Olajide Ojo who didn’t hesitate to power the ball into the net from outside the yard.

However, the David Odulami-led team couldn’t salvage a point towards the end of the second half after failing to utilize their chances.
