30BG SC snatched a narrow 1-0 victory over Gular FC, with Fadipe Saheed’s second-minute penalty proving decisive at the Campos Memorial Mini Stadium on Sunday, 15 December 2024.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The breakthrough came early when Idowu Kazeem was brought down in the box by Eze Ezekiel, allowing Saheed to convert from the spot and give the all-white-clad 30BG the lead. They nearly doubled their advantage minutes later, but Kazeem’s effort struck the woodwork.
Gular pressed for an equaliser, with Ani Ezekiel winning a free kick after being fouled by Yisa Toheeb in the 10th minute, but the attempt flew off target. Moments later, Ani set up Chima Hilary, whose shot drifted wide. The pressure continued as Ani found a loose ball in the box but failed to direct it goalward.
Four minutes before half-time, 30BG goalkeeper Opeyemi Joseph made a crucial save to deny Gambo Aaron’s header, preserving his side’s lead.
A tightly contested second half saw both teams struggle to create clear-cut chances, with 30BG holding firm to protect their slim advantage.
The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where 30BG compounded Gular FC’s woes. Chima Hilary missed his spot kick, handing 30BG their first penalty shootout victory of the tournament, drawing them level on points and all metrics with Mavbrooks as Group B joint leaders.
Davido’s billion gangs won the group with the final tiebreaker of having won the most games in regulation time after both teams finished with the same points, goal difference, goals scored and regulation time head-to-head.
