Shooting Stars 2-1 Plateau United: Mutiu-inspired Warriors head down Peace Boys in Ibadan
Shooting Stars defeated Plateau United 2-1 in their opening NPFL match of the season at the Lekan Salami Stadium, on Saturday, 30 September 2023, courtesy of two well-taken headed goals.
Ayobami Adekunle opened the scoring for Shooting Stars in the 37th minute with a header from an Olawale Mutiu cross. Mutiu then sets up Anayor Ogbonna in the 76th minute to double the lead for the Oluyole Warriors.
Plateau United pulled a goal back in the 78th minute through David Onovo, but it was not enough to deny Shooting Stars their victory.
Shooting Stars started the match with eight new players in their lineup, and they looked sharp and organized throughout the game. They controlled possession for most of the match and created a number of chances.
Plateau United were dangerous on the counter-attack, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
Shooting Stars goalkeeper Darlington Ovuda made a number of good saves to keep his team in the lead.
The win is a good start for Shooting Stars, who will be looking to build on their performance in the coming weeks.
