Match Preview: Insurance hosts Peace Boys in Benin

This weekend promises an exciting showdown in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as Bendel Insurance plays host to Plateau United on Saturday, 14 October 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Bendel Insurance, currently occupying the 3rd position in the NPFL league standings with 3 points, despite having played only one game, are eager to maintain their momentum. They are set to take on Plateau United, who also have 3 points from two games played.

The Benin Arsenals aim to build on their recent victory against Shooting Stars, where Falka Ghali’s own goal was secured by super sub Ogbonda Evans in the 78th minute of the game. They will face the Peace Boys from Plateau, who have had a mixed start to the NPFL season, winning one (their last game against Heartland, 1:0, with Mundi Bernard’s 11th-minute goal sealing the victory) and losing one (their opening game of the season against Shooting Stars, 2-1).

In recent history, Bendel Insurance has claimed victory in three matches and drawn two out of their last five home games. On the other hand, Plateau United has faced challenges on the road, with five winless matches, including two draws and three losses.

In head-to-head encounters, Plateau United will be looking to right the wrings as they’ve been unable to secure a victory against Bendel Insurance in their last two meetings. This includes a 1-1 draw at the New Jos Stadium earlier this year in April, following Bendel Insurance’s 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture in January, with goals from Sarki and Osarenkhoe Imade for Bendel Insurance.

Notably, Bendel Insurance’s recent signings are eager to make an impact in tomorrow’s match, following their impressive performance in the last game. Evans Ogbonda scored the winning goal after being substituted in, along with Akpos Godbless, while Paul Obata and Jude Ebohon started the game.
