Nigerian e-sports team to participate in Saudi 2023 Championship
The Nigerian e-sports community is set to make a historic debut at the prestigious Afro-Arab e-sports league championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to Mr. Agbor Clinton, President of the Nigerian e-sports Federation (NESFED), both the male and female categories will proudly carry the Nigerian national flag during the e-sports world championship scheduled from August 18 to August 22.
Expressing excitement about the opportunity, Clinton shared that the Nigerian team has already begun preparations for the 2023 Afro-Arab e-sports league. Their primary objective is to represent the country with pride and make Nigeria shine on the international stage.
He commended the organizers for allowing Nigerian youths to compete globally and expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for their support, including providing jerseys for the championship in Saudi Arabia.
The NESFED President also acknowledged the significant role played by the NFF in promoting and developing e-football in the country, referring to them as the “big brothers” in this endeavor. eFootball, an association football simulation video game developed and published by Konami, serves as the platform for this prestigious championship.
eFootball 2022, the game’s first year, was released on September 30, 2021, and later rebranded as eFootball 2023 on August 25, 2022. The game is part of the International Esports Federation’s World Championship and the North and Eastern Europa League (NEEC).
To ensure the team’s optimal performance, NESFED has arranged a series of activities for the players leading up to the event. They are in talks with Play Box in Abuja, which will serve as the training ground for the Nigerian e-sports federation team in preparation for the championship at the Riyadh Boulevard Challenge Arena.
The participation of the Nigerian e-sports team in the Afro-Arab league championship marks a significant milestone for the country, signifying its growing presence and potential in the world of e-sports.
