Primal Sporting FC earned two points in their opening game of Lagos Liga against Tacha FC at the Campos Memorial Mini Stadium on Sunday, 8 December, 2024 to move up to second place in the Group D standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sporting and Tacha had decent chances in the early minutes to score the game’s opener but lacked the cutting edge to bury any of these chances.
The Titans came closest to scoring after Matthew Onoja, who was played through by Olawale Edu’s back heel pass, played a low cross into the box for Joachin Ebube. The resultant shot was saved point blank by Primal Sporting goalkeeper, Sunday Stephen.
Hassan Lawrence scored the game’s opener after skipping past his man to power his shot beyond Mahmood Adesina in the eighth minute of the game. Shortly after falling behind, Tacha brought on Musa Danjuma to replace Olawale as they sought an equaliser. Prince Johnasky replaced Ebube as the game reached its midway point.
Substitute Johnasky headed home the equaliser for Tacha in the 13th minute after Sunday’s save from Onoja’s shot fell onto his path. On the other end, Primal Sporting squandered an opportunity to take the lead after the goalkeeper blocked off an initial attempt at goal.
Tacha made the first substitution of the second half with Okpaise Miracle making way for Johnasky. In the 27th minute of play, Tacha’s Onoja received the first booking of the game for a foul on the opposition player and they dominated proceedings but were unable to breach the resolute Sporting defence.
With the score still pegged at 1-1, Tacha introduced Apollos Jonah in place of Aliyu Tafida as they desperately sought the winning goal. Sporting’s Jonah received the last booking of the game in the 37th minute with the scoreline still level.
After stoppage time, nothing separated both sides as they both claimed one point each. In the post-regular time penalty shoot-out, Stephen Sunday made two brilliant stops to help Primal Sporting to a 2-1 win. The shoot-out win means Primal Sporting finish the day with two points as they move up to second place, just two points behind table toppers Supremos FC.
