The result solidifies the Gorilla boys’ place at the top of the table, extending their unbeaten run in emphatic fashion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game began with both teams pushing forward aggressively. Firecrackers had the first sight of goal in the 4th minute when Franklin Victor dribbled past two defenders but failed to hit the target and Primal Sporting responded swiftly then took the lead in the 8th minute when Hassan Lawrence met an inch-perfect cross from Shuaibu Mukhtar, guiding a header past Quadri Balogun into the net.
Barely a minute later, Lawrence turned provider, returning the favour to set up Shuaibu in the box. The forward calmly placed a side-footed shot beyond Balogun, doubling Primal Sporting’s lead.
With momentum on their side, Sporting continued to pile pressure on Firecrackers. In the 12th minute, Shuaibu delivered a precise pass to Hassan Abba, but his goal-bound effort was kept out by Balogun.
In the 16th minute, Mubarak Usman replaced Hassan Lawrence as Sporting sought to increase their attacking firepower with Firecrackers struggling to contain the Abuja-based club and eventually conceded a third goal in the 27th minute when substitute Aliyu Tafidah capitalised on a brilliant through ball from Shuaibu, slotting the ball past the helpless Balogun.
Primal Sporting showed no signs of slowing down after the break. In the 32nd minute, Musa Adamu made it 4-0 with a powerful shot from outside the box after Mubarak Usman laid off a pass to him. Firecrackers barely had time to regroup before Tafidah grabbed his second goal of the game in the 35th minute, skillfully sidestepping Lanre Vigo before unleashing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Firecrackers’s best chance to score came in the 36th minute when Ikobong Abasikeme found himself with space to shoot, but Sunday Stephen was equal to the task, making a comfortable save.
Primal Sporting continued to dominate and sealed their six-goal masterclass in the 40th minute when Usman latched onto a through ball from Precious Meindinyo and calmly slotted past Balogun.
Despite the heavy defeat, Firecrackers had a chance to claim an extra point in the post-match penalty shootout. However, Primal Sporting held their nerve and triumphed 3-2.
With this result, Primal Sporting strengthened their grip on the top of the table, moving to six points with a +6 goal difference. Firecrackers FC, meanwhile, sit second with two points from two games, needing a response in their next fixture.
