2026 FIFA WCQ: Amartey fails fitness test, to miss Ghana vs Comoros clash

Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a huge blow after news broke out that defender Daniel Amartey has been ruled out of their second 2026 FIFA World Cup Group I qualifying fixture against Comoros at Stade de Moroni on Tuesday.

A statement from Ghana’s football association published on their official website read: “Daniel Amartey has failed a late fitness test for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros. The Turkey-based player limped out of the game against Madagascar on Friday after a suspected hamstring injury and was left out of training in Moroni on Sunday.”

The statement added: “Although MRI scans did not reveal any obvious injury, his clinical progress as monitored by the medical team has been rather slow, making him unavailable for the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros. The former Leicester City player who started the opening game in Kumasi was later replaced by Kasim Nuhu.”

The Black Stars kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 victory against Madagascar and will hope to make it two wins out of two when they face the Island nation.
