Abeokuta to host 2024 South West Athletics Conference
The South West Zone of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced plans to host the 2024 South West Athletics Conference (SWAC), tagged Abeokuta SWAC 2024.
According to a press release made available to the media by the Media Coordinator, Biodun Alabi, the event is scheduled to take place from 3rd to 6th July 2024 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and promises to be the largest athletics conference in the region.
The conference aims to bring together athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and enthusiasts from across the South West zone to discuss and promote the development of athletics. It will feature a series of insightful discussions, workshops, and keynote addresses by distinguished personalities in the field of sports.
Professor Tunde Makanju has been named the keynote speaker, bringing his extensive knowledge and expertise to the conference. He will be supported by other lead speakers who are renowned in their respective fields.
Among the special guests expected at the event are Chief Segun Odegbami, former Captain of the Super Eagles, Chief Bukola Olopade, Founder of Nilayo Sports Management, and Mr. Tunde Popoola, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).
The Conference Chairman is Distinguished Ranking Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing the Yewa Senatorial District of Ogun State. His role underscores the significance of the event to the region’s athletic community.
The Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CFR, will serve as the Chief Host and Special Guest of Honour.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with experts, participate in discussions on best practices, and explore new strategies to enhance athletic performance and administration.
Organisers have extended an invitation to all stakeholders in the athletics community to join this event as they deliberate on the future of athletics in the South West zone of Nigeria.
