Match Report: Remo Stars come from behind to beat Enugu Rangers 2-1

IKENNE (Made In Africa Sport) – Remo Stars came from behind to secure their first win of the season against a disciplined Enugu Rangers in a highly competitive match day two encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

Enugu Rangers took the lead in the 8th minute through Ogunleye when Kayode Bankole failed in an attempt to stop his shot.

The Sky Blue Stars wasted chances afterwards, but equalized in the 34th minute through Seun Ogunribide.

Sikiru Alimi secured the win for Remo Stars in the 53rd minute with a powerful header from Sodiq Ismail’s cross.

Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechuckwu admitted after the game that his team lost the game from the midfield.

“When you have the best players making mistake all you do as a coach is encourage them, giving them that advantage that they can comeback, so many errors from our midfield and that was where Remo Stars took it from,” Ilechuckwu said.

On the other hand, Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede saluted the doggedness of his players for their performance against a very good team with one of the best tacticians in the league.

“We thank the management for bringing new boys into the system, the boys are well motivated and we know we are in for a battle,” Ogunmodede said.

“I know it was going to be a tough match for us but I am happy at the end that we conquered and most importantly introducing some of our new boys from the academy and they did brilliantly well and I am proud of them.”

What’s next

Rangers play host to Niger Tornadoes in matchday three of the NPFL at their temporary home ground in Awka while Remo Stars will be traveling to the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa to face Bayelsa United.
