‘I won’t lose focus’ – Kotoko’s Lamptey thankful for media boost, eyes final Black Stars AFCON 2023 squad
Asante Kotoko’s midfield maestro Richmond Lamptey has expressed his deep appreciation to the Ghanaian media for their role in showcasing his talents, ultimately leading to his inclusion in the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I will thank the media,” declared Lamptey, his voice brimming with gratitude after Kotoko’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over RTU. The former Inter Allies man, one of 11 home-based players named in Chris Hughton’s 55-man provisional list, delivered a top-notch performance in the Ghanaian Premier League clash.
Earning a Black Stars call-up is a dream come true for Lamptey, but he knows the journey is far from over. With humility and determination, he pledged to remain focused on his ultimate goal: “I won’t lose focus after making the Black Stars provisional squad. I will continue to work hard to achieve my aim.”
Hughton has until January 3 to whittle down the provisional squad to a final 23 for the AFCON tournament, set to kick off in Ivory Coast on January 13, 2024. Lamptey is determined to make the cut and contribute to the Black Stars’ quest for glory on the continental stage.
