Hassan Folly, Abdul-Wahab open Team Nigeria’s boxing campaign at Glasgow 2026

‘s campaign at the Glasgow 2026 gets underway on Friday, with Ayomide and Abdul-Wahab Abdul-Ramon stepping into the ring for their respective preliminary bouts at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).

Hassan Folly will compete in the men’s 70kg division, while Abdul-Wahab is set to feature in the men’s 65kg category as Nigeria begins its quest for boxing honours at the Games.

Both fighters earned their places in Team Nigeria following impressive performances at the national trials earlier this year. Hassan booked his place after defeating Precious Nwoha 4-1 in the 70kg final, while Abdul-Wahab secured qualification with a 4-1 victory over Ridwan Saliu in the 65kg final.

Friday’s contests represent the first step in their Commonwealth Games journey, with victories guaranteeing progression to the next round and keeping their hopes of a podium finish alive.

Nigeria heads into the competition looking to add to its rich boxing history at the Commonwealth Games, where the country has produced several medal-winning performances over the years. The Glasgow tournament presents another opportunity for the nation’s boxers to test themselves against some of the Commonwealth’s finest amateur fighters.

While the preliminary round is only the opening stage of the competition, positive results for Hassan and Abdul-Wahab would provide an early boost for Team Nigeria and build momentum for the rest of the boxing squad.
