Genoa join Ajax in race to sign Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare from Wolves

Serie A club Genoa have joined Ajax in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare, according to reports in Italy.

Italian outlet FirenzeViola.it, citing transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, said Genoa had entered the race after Fiorentina ended their interest in the Nigeria international.

Fiorentina had been exploring a move for the 25-year-old but were unable to complete a deal after using their final non-European Union registration slot on another signing.

That development has opened the door for Genoa, who are now considering a move for the striker as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Ajax are also reported to retain an interest in Arokodare, having monitored the forward for an extended period.

The Dutch club face fresh competition from Genoa, who are hoping to capitalise on Fiorentina’s withdrawal from the race.

Arokodare’s future at Wolves has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with reports suggesting uncertainty over his position at the Premier League club.

The Nigerian has also been linked with tensions behind the scenes, including claims that he has not been training with the first-team squad.
