FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets earn draw against South Korea in final pre-tournament friendly
Nigeria’s Falconets played to a 1-1 draw against South Korea in their final pre-tournament friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Made In Africa Sport reports.
The match, which was held at the Remes Resort Stadium in Poland on Tuesday, saw the Falconets open the scoring in the 29th minute through Mary Mamudu with a calm finish following a swift attack.
The Falconets managed to hold on to their lead through halftime. However, a relentless South Korean side determined to break through the Falconets’ defence found an equaliser in the 78th minute after being awarded a penalty.
During a post-game interview with the NFF media, Head Coach Moses Aduku expressed complete satisfaction with the squad’s adaptation and competitive drive.
“So far, so good. We are done with our friendly games, and for me, we are good. There are no injury worries, and my girls are ready. Therefore, we’re waiting for the 7th against Spain.” He said.
The Falconets defeated World Cup host nation, Poland, in their test friendly opener on Thursday, with the winning goal scored by forward Mary Mamudu.
The Falconets forward will be a key player in the team’s campaign in Poland.
Tuesday’s result means Nigeria completed their final warm-up fixtures ahead of the World Cup with a victory over Poland and a draw against South Korea.
These results set the 2010 and 2014 World Cup silver medallists in good form ahead of their first match of the competition, against Spain in Sosnowiec on Monday evening.
All focus will now shift towards their final preparations ahead of their first group stage game of the tournament in the highly stacked Group F.
The Falconets will face Spain at the Arena Sosnowiec on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 5:00 pm.
Then later on play China PR on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
They will battle against New Caledonia for the final group stage match on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
The first two group stage matches against Spain and China PR will be played at the Arena Sosnowiec, Sosnowiec in Poland.
The final group stage game against New Caledonia will be played at the Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź, Łódź in Poland.
