Jarus FC improved their standing in Group A with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Krypton FC at the Campos Memorial Mini Stadium on Saturday, 14 December 2024 in Lagos Liga group’s final round of matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match began with high intensity as Jarus FC found the breakthrough in the third minute. Enoch Namene fired a left-footed shot toward the Krypton goal, and Kingsley Okon was unable to keep it out.
Two minutes later, Jarus FC doubled their lead when a mishandled cross by Okon led to an own goal from Bakare Taiwo. The Krypton defender, under pressure, inadvertently headed the ball into his own net following a delivery from Teslim Isiaka.
Krypton responded with a series of attacking moves. In the 13th minute, Asunmo Ade came close to pulling one back but was denied by Lukmon “Casillas” Shittu, who made a strong save to keep Jarus’ two-goal lead intact.
Krypton maintained the pressure and had another opportunity in the 16th minute when Wasiu Balogun weaved past a defender before squaring the ball to Sherif Oladehinde, but the forward failed to make a clean connection, allowing Casillas to catch the ball safely.
In the 23rd minute, Sofiu Rahmon forced another save from Casillas after Confidence Stephen failed to clear a cross. Moments later, Monday “Bobo” George of Jarus was booked in the 28th minute for a reckless challenge on Balogun.
Despite Casillas’ efforts, Krypton finally found the net in the 32nd minute when Sefiu Rahmon took matters into his own hands, dribbling from midfield past two defenders before lobbing the ball into the net to reduce the deficit.
Rahmon almost equalised in the 38th minute with a well-struck free kick, but Casillas once again came to Jarus’ rescue, tipping the ball to safety. Krypton continued to search for an equaliser, but Jarus held firm until the final whistle.
The penalty shootout saw Jarus also claiming a 4-3 victory, earning an extra point after Casillas continued his heroics to deny Olayiwola Qudus and Ade Asunmo from the spot. With the win, Jarus climbed to second in Group A with four points and a zero goal difference, while Krypton dropped to third place with the same points but an identical goal difference.
The Suraj Oyewale boys will await result in the group’s final game between Applebee and Koko FC, hoping the latter will lose heavily in regulation time and not win the penalty shootout to be able to progress to the next round.
