BREAKING: NFF Dissolves NPFL Board, Orders League Chiefs to Hand Over

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the Chairmen, appointed Directors and Chief Executive Officers of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and Nationwide League One (NLO) to hand over the administration of their respective leagues.

The directive forms part of interim measures announced by the NFF to ensure continuity in the administration of Nigerian football during a transition period.

Under the new arrangement, the affected league administrators are expected to hand over to their respective Chief Operating Officers (COOs), provided the COOs are members of staff of the NFF.

Where a league’s current COO is not an NFF staff member, the Acting General Secretary of the Federation is to deploy a new COO from within the NFF to oversee the administration of the league.

The directive affects the leadership structure of the country’s major domestic competitions, including the NPFL, where Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye serves as chairman and Davidson Owumi as Chief Executive Officer.

The NFF said the interim measures are aimed at maintaining continuity in the running of the leagues while engagements continue with FIFA, CAF, the Federal Government and other stakeholders.

According to the Federation, the ongoing engagements are expected to contribute to the development of a roadmap for the comprehensive reforms envisaged for Nigerian football.

The NFF added that further changes and directives would be communicated in due course.

The latest directive therefore places the day-to-day administration of the affected leagues under interim arrangements pending the conclusion of the engagements and the activation of the next steps in the proposed reforms.
