Babatunde’s Future FC seals CAF Confederation Cup group stage berth

Former Akwa United midfielder, Bello Babatunde Martins featured from the start in Future FC’s 4-1 victory over Singida Fountain on Sunday, 1 October, 2023 advancing to the group stage of the 2023/24 CAF Confederations Cup.

The midfielder, who has now started in four consecutive games this season for the first time since joining the Egyptian side last year, seems to be enjoying more playing time after enduring a difficult start to his Future FC career.

Future FC’s emphatic win on Sunday night ensured their smooth passage to the group stages, winning 4-2 on aggregate after losing the first leg by a goal to nil in Tanzania.

Future currently sits at the top of the Egyptian top division after accruing the maximum six points from two games and will be looking to build on their 4th-place finish from last season.

Babatunde will now aim to establish himself in his newly found role under the new coach, Ricardo Formosinho for the new Egyptian league season. The midfielder had very limited appearances under former coach A. Maher in his first season with the club.

The Nigerian midfielder secured a move to Egypt on the back of a successful debut season with Akwa United under the tutelage of coach Deji Ayeni in the 2021/2022 season, scoring four league goals despite joining during the mid-season transfer window from Sunshine Stars.
