BREAKING: Robbery incident forces rescheduling of Lobi Stars vs Abia Warriors match to Sunday

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 4 fixture between Lobi Stars and Abia Warriors, initially planned for Saturday, 21 October, has been shifted to Sunday, October 22.

In a press statement made available to Made In Africa Sport, this rescheduling comes in the wake of a tragic robbery incident that recently occurred in Otukpo, a nearby local government to Makurdi, the home base of Lobi Stars, and the NPFL has granted a 24-hour shift in response to this unfortunate event.

Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of NPFL, expressed his condolences and support for both Lobi Stars and the entire community of Benue State.

He remarked, “Everything and all officials involved in this fixture, including the crew of our broadcast streaming partners, Propel Sports, are on the ground in Lafia, but this is a significant human tragedy that deserves our sympathy and support.”

Owumi also disclosed that the league has sought the understanding of the match officials and the visiting team, Abia Warriors, whose schedules and logistics would be directly impacted by the date shift. He emphasized that “all other fixtures will be played as scheduled.”

As a result, the only match set to proceed today is the fixture in Kaduna between Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United as the match between Doma United and Enyimba International has already been postponed due to the latter’s involvement in the prestigious Africa Football League (AFL).

Lafia will join seven other fixtures to be played on Sunday.
