Nilayo Sports deliver World Athletics air monitor to Lagos State
Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML) has handed over a World Athletics air quality monitoring device to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and clean air through sport.
The handing over, which took place at the agency’s headquarters in Lagos, marked a new chapter in the partnership between NSML and LASEPA.
Managing Director of NSML, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, who was represented by the project officer at the company Miss Otonye Iworima (Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist in Triple Jump), presented the device to Mrs. Abdulwarees Sholanke, Director Research and Development, LASEPA, who represented the LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi.
Mrs. Ayodele Oso, Director of Air Quality and Emission Control for LASEPA was also present.
The Kunak Air quality device was part of the World Athletics #RunningForCleanAir Lagos 18-month project in conjunction with the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which officially wrapped up with the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The project was funded by the Clean Air Fund and led by World Athletics as part of their sustainability strategy for the sport. The project is aimed at addressing air pollution in urban spaces by leveraging on the power of sports, focusing on city marathon events.

Strategically, the World Athletics mapped out local air pollution data at the designated ‘Urban Clean Air Training Areas’ located at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) admin building in the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, and engaged multiple stakeholders groups (local running clubs, schools, elite fun runners, city and national government officials in the 6-months preceeding and on the day of the Lagos Marathon.
The project helped raise awareness of air pollution’s impacts and influence Lagos state government to make further committments towards a cleaner urban environment.
