NFF Officials Head to Presidential Villa Amid Resignation Rumours
Senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are reportedly heading to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday amid growing uncertainty over the future of the federation’s current leadership.
The development comes against the backdrop of mounting pressure on the NFF following the Super Falcons‘ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The federation had recently apologised to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians over the team’s disappointing campaign.
According to sources, the meeting at the Villa could see members of the NFF Executive Committee formally sign resignation letters, a development that, if confirmed, could have significant implications for the leadership structure of Nigerian football.
At least six members of the Executive Committee are reportedly prepared to honour the invitation and appear at the Presidential Villa, although the exact nature and outcome of the meeting remain unclear.
The situation has further heightened uncertainty around the federation, with the NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, and General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, reportedly unreachable as of 11am on Thursday.
The reported development comes only days after the NFF Executive Committee initiated steps to address the Super Falcons’ failure and wider concerns surrounding the performance of Nigeria’s national teams.
The federation had previously established a fact-finding committee to investigate the causes of the recent setbacks, particularly the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The committee was given two weeks to submit its report.
While no official confirmation has been issued on any resignation by members of the Executive Committee, the reported movement to the Presidential Villa has intensified speculation over a possible shake-up at the country’s football governing body.
