Superstars FC confirmed their place in the knockout stage of Lagos Liga after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Spiritual Movement, sealing an extra point with a 3-2 penalty shootout victory in the final match of matchday seven at Campos Memorial Mini Stadium on Sunday, 15 December 2024.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With top spot in Group C at stake, Superstars started brightly. Chukwuneme Justin forced an early save from goalkeeper Kolade Quadri with a second-minute free kick and tested him again two minutes later. Samuel “Ripper” Oladepo had a penalty appeal waved off in the ninth minute before Oduwole Mustapha received the first yellow card of the game for a foul on him.

Despite Superstars’ dominance, the first half ended goalless. The second half, however, brought an explosion of goals.

Tomisin “Skaara” Alasiri opened the scoring with 15 minutes left, finishing off a pass from Ripper to put Superstars in front. Justin then doubled the lead, capitalising after Ripper’s attack was halted outside the box.

Spiritual Movement mounted a late comeback, with Nwafor Nnamdi pulling one back from a free kick before Adijuan Chukwuemeka equalised moments later after a defensive error allowed Ogoguo Alex to break through.

The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Hakeem Onitolo converted the decisive spot kick to give Superstars a 3-2 victory.

With the result, Superstars advance to the knockout stage as group leaders, keeping their title hopes alive.
