Femi Azeez’s Premier League hopes suffer as Ipswich complete £20m transfer of Ghana winger

Femi Azeez‘s hopes of earning a Premier League move have suffered a setback after Ipswich Town completed the signing of Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City.

Ipswich had been linked with the Nigeria winger throughout the year after failing to prise him away from Millwall during the January transfer window.

However, the newly promoted club have now strengthened their wide attacking options by completing a reported £20m move for Fatawu, effectively ending their pursuit of Azeez.

The development leaves the 25-year-old with fewer immediate opportunities to secure a move to England‘s top flight despite an impressive campaign for Millwall.

Azeez was one of the Championship‘s standout performers last season, helping Millwall finish third while contributing 15 goals and 13 assists in 75 appearances since joining from Reading in 2024.

His performances attracted interest from several clubs, with Ipswich regarded as one of the strongest contenders for his signature.

Their decision to recruit Fatawu instead could reduce the number of realistic Premier League destinations available to Azeez during the current transfer window.

Millwall are understood to value the winger at around £15m and, with two years remaining on his contract, are under little pressure to sell.

Although Hull City have also been linked with the Nigerian, no formal move has materialised.

Millwall’s summer recruitment has fuelled speculation that the club could still sanction a major sale to balance spending after making several permanent signings.

If that happens, Azeez remains one of the club’s most valuable assets.

For now, though, one of the clearest routes to the Premier League appears to have closed, leaving the Nigerian’s immediate future uncertain as the transfer window continues.
