EXCLUSIVE: ‘I want to play in Europe,’ says Bayelsa United’s Robert Mizo as he targets Super Eagles call-up
Bayelsa United star striker, Robert Mizo, has said his dream is to play in Europe a few years from now, as he targets thirty goals this season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and a call-up to the Nigeria national football team.
Mizo, in an exclusive interview with Made In Africa Sport, noted that it has been a good start for him so far this season and that he will continue to push to get better.
The 23-year-old striker also said it was a dream come true for him to make his debut last season in the NPFL and that he has been preparing for it.
“Well, for me, it’s been a dream to play in the NPFL someday, as the NPFL is the top-flight league in the country,” Robert Mizo told Made In Africa Sport. “So I was just working hard and waiting to get that platform to showcase myself, so when it came, I was very much prepared.”
“In a few years to come, I see myself getting better with dedication, breaking into the Nigeria Men’s National Team, and getting to Europe.” He said.
Mizo also spoke about his target for the season after scoring seven goals in eight matches so far.
“Honestly, I just want to do better this season. I scored nine goals and ended up as the second-highest goalscorer last season.”
“I am hoping to just do better for my team. The number of goals? Maybe thirty.”
Robert Mizo has scored 16 goals in the NPFL in 2023; no player has scored more (tied with Chukwuemeka Obioma).
With 7 goals this season, he told Made In Africa Sport that his target is 30 goals.

Speaking on Bayelsa United’s poor start to the season, Mizo added that the team will come good, and it’s still early days to talk about relegation.
“It’s just seven games, so why are we talking about relegation now? The team started badly, doesn’t mean we will end badly. We are surely going to bounce back; it’s more of a new team with new players with different abilities, but for sure we will come back strong.” He concluded.
Mizo won the League Bloggers Award Player of the Month for September/October after scoring six goals in five matches.
