Alhassan Yusuf Hits First MLS Hat-Trick in Historic Display
Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf produced the performance of his MLS career on Wednesday night, scoring a hat-trick as New England Revolution defeated D.C. United 3-0 at Audi Field.
Alhassan Yusuf opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, rising to head home a cross from Peyton Miller before doubling New England’s advantage just before half-time. The Nigerian completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute, again finding the net with a header following another delivery from Jack Harrison.
The three-goal haul marked Yusuf’s first hat-trick and first multi-goal game in MLS, while his performance also made him only the eighth player in New England Revolution history to score a regular-season hat-trick. He is the club’s first player to achieve the feat since Kei Kamara in September 2017.
Yusuf’s goals also took his MLS tally for the 2026 season to five, surpassing his previous season-high of two goals for the Revolution. Before Wednesday’s emphatic display, he had scored twice in the league this season, including the winner in New England’s 1-0 victory over D.C. United in April.
The midfielder’s second goal arrived in first-half stoppage time, giving New England a comfortable 2-0 lead at the interval before he completed the rout 21 minutes into the second half.
The victory ended New England’s three-game winless run, while D.C. United saw their six-game unbeaten streak brought to an end.
For Yusuf, the performance represents a significant personal milestone since joining the Revolution. The Nigerian has become an important part of New England’s midfield, featuring in every one of the club’s 19 MLS matches this season before Wednesday’s encounter.
Alhassan Yusuf latest performance will also attract attention from Nigeria, with the 26-year-old continuing to build his profile ahead of future Super Eagles assignments.
After scoring only twice in the league last season, Yusuf has now already surpassed that tally in 2026. More importantly, he has added another dimension to his game by producing a decisive attacking display when his team needed it.
One night, three goals and a first career MLS hat-trick -Yusuf has certainly announced himself.
