AFCON 2023: Nigeria ranks fourth in ticket sales, eager fans gear up for triumph in Côte d’Ivoire

Nigerian football fans are gearing up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) in a big way, with the country ranking fourth in ticket purchases so far, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The 34th edition of the tournament will take place across five cities in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024. CAF recently revealed data showing that Nigeria has snapped up 12,544 tickets, placing them among the top five buyers on the continent.

Unsurprisingly, the host nation, Ivory Coast, leads the pack with an impressive 32,307 tickets sold. They’re followed by Guinea-Bissau (28,614) and Equatorial Guinea (16,237) in second and third place respectively. Interestingly, all four of these nations are also grouped together in Group A for the tournament.

Rounding out the top five are the defending champions, Senegal, with 10,959 tickets purchased.

The tournament’s opening game between host Côte d’Ivoire vs Guinea-Bissau top the lists of top matches with highest ticket sales, followed by the the double headers between Côte d’Ivoire vs Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea vs Guinea-Bissau, then Equatorial Guinea vs Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique vs Ghana in third.

In fourth place is the Group C double header between Senegal vs Cameroon and Guinea vs The Gambia at Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro while the cracker between seven-times champions, Egypt and four-times champions, Ghana at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan concludes the top five list.
