Three Nigerians set for 2026 Diamond League final in Brussels
Three Nigerian athletes will compete at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium, as Kanyinsola Ajayi, Tobi Amusan and Ezekiel Nathaniel prepare to take on the world’s best at the season-ending meeting, Made In Africa Sport reports.
Ajayi will be the first Nigerian in action when he lines up in the men’s 100m on Friday, September 4.
The sprinter is scheduled to compete at 7:14 pm Nigerian time as he looks to cap a breakthrough season with another strong performance on the Diamond League stage.
Ajayi has established himself as one of Nigeria’s leading sprinters in 2026, matching the national 100m record of 9.84 seconds three times during the season.
The Nigerian has also produced notable victories against some of the world’s leading sprinters, making his appearance in Brussels one to watch.
Amusan will lead Nigeria’s challenge on Saturday, September 5, when she competes in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The world record holder is scheduled to race at 8:10 pm Nigerian time as she targets another strong finish to her Diamond League campaign.
Amusan remains one of Nigeria’s most decorated athletes on the global athletics circuit and will face a competitive field in Brussels.
Nathaniel will complete Nigeria’s contingent later on Saturday in the men’s 400m hurdles.
The Nigerian is scheduled to compete at 8:52 pm and will be looking to finish his Diamond League season on a high.
Nathaniel has enjoyed a strong 2026 campaign, including winning Commonwealth Games gold in the 400m hurdles in Glasgow.
He also holds the Nigerian national record in the event with a time of 47.11 seconds.
The Brussels meeting represents the final opportunity of the Diamond League season for the three Nigerians to compete against the best athletes on the circuit.
For Ajayi, Amusan and Nathaniel, the focus will now be on delivering strong performances when they step onto the track in Belgium.
Nigeria will therefore have three athletes flying the country’s flag across two days of action at the Diamond League Final, with Ajayi competing on Friday before Amusan and Nathaniel take centre stage on Saturday.
