Nigeria’s D’Tigers will face a formidable challenge in their quest to qualify for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, as they have been drawn into a tough group alongside Cape Verde, Uganda, and the winner of the pre-qualifiers from Zone 1 and 2.

The draw, conducted on Friday, placed the 2015 champions and 2017 runners-up in Group B, where they will encounter stiff competition from Cape Verde, a rising force in African basketball, and Uganda, a team that has consistently improved over recent years.

The D’Tigers, determined to reclaim their continental dominance, will need to navigate this challenging group to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament next year.

In other groups, defending champion Tunisia face a stern test in Group E, where they will battle Angola, Guinea, and Kenya.

All group compositions are as follows:

• Group A: South Sudan, DR Congo, Mali, Zone 6 + Mauritius + Comoros
• Group B: Cape Verde, Nigeria, Uganda, Zone 1 + Zone 2
• Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Zone 3 + Zone 4, Rwanda
• Group D: Ivory Coast, Egypt, Central African Republic, Zone 5 + Madagascar + Djibouti
• Group E: Tunisia, Angola, Guinea, Kenya

The qualifiers, scheduled to take place between February and November 2024, will feature 16 countries vying for a place in the AfroBasket tournament.

Groups D, B, and E will take to the court in the February 2024 window, while Groups C and A will play their matches in the November 2024 window.
