In an exclusive interview with Made In Africa Sport, Domo noted that the league is still in its early stages, but their objective is always to secure all three points in their matches and aim to qualify for the Super Six at the end of the season.

“Of course, we are playing at home, and with the level of Bayelsa Queens, nothing is acceptable except victory, and that’s what we will go for.”

“The league just started, so it’s too early to start counting, you understand? But every match, we go for the three points; that has always been our target.”

Domo added that Bayelsa Queens’ mission and target for the season are to qualify for the season-ending title decider tournament, “The Super Six.”

“Our mission is to qualify for the Super Six and go there and see if we can win it so that we can go back to the continent; that is what I want; that’s my goal.”

The Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser also spoke about the addition of new strikers to the team and how they will help solve the striking problems they faced last season.

“We have signed some new attackers, and I believe they will be able to meet up with what we couldn’t do last season.”

“We have signed Delta Queens’ attacker Mercy Omoku, the highest goalscorer of last season, but she has not been cleared. Mary Anjor has recovered; she has started training but has not picked match form, so I believe our attacking problem will be solved with these new players coming into the team. Juliet Sunday is also coming back.”

“We have rich attackers, so it will be difficult for us to be picking those who will start, and that is how you know a team that has good attackers. We will not be using a particular set of players; anybody that plays better, we will use them.”

“I believe that goal-scoring issues will be a forgotten matter,” he concluded.

Bayelsa Queens drew their first match of the season against Sunshine Queens and will be looking to record their first win when they tackle Ekiti Queens at home.

Nigeria’s journey to the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup took an unexpected turn when Mauritius withdrew from the second-round match, granting the 2022 World Cup quarter-finalists a bye to the third round. In this round, they will face Tanzania, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam between the 10th and 12th of November and the return leg set for Abuja between the 17th and 19th of November.

Coach Danjuma has chosen a few players from his World Cup quarter-finalist squad in Costa Rica from the previous year. He has also included several promising talents from the Flamingos squad that secured bronze medals at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The AGA, attended by 22 club representatives, witnessed several resolutions that promise to reshape women’s football in Nigeria.

In a groundbreaking move, the NWFL AGA approved the expansion of the NWFL Premiership from 14 to 16 teams and the NWFL Championship from 12 to 20 teams. Additionally, the Nationwide League will undergo restructuring into State Leagues, providing more opportunities for women’s football development.

The Congress confirmed the promotion of Dannaz Ladies, Sunshine Queens, Lakeside Queens (Remo Stars Ladies), and Ekiti Queens to the NWFL Premiership from the Championship. Simultaneously, Ibom Angels and Osun Babes were relegated to the NWFL Championship.

The AGA announced Wednesday, 15 November, 2023, as the kick-off date for the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership season, adopting a two-group format for the season, with Group A and Group B.
