Brume leads six-strong Nigerian charge at Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships

The World Athletics has released the final entry list for the Glasgow 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place in Great Britain from March 1st to 3rd, 2024.

Team Nigeria has entered six athletes across five events, with Ese Brume, the African record holder in the women’s long jump, leading the Nigerian team to compete in the 400 metres, 800 metres, shot put, men’s 4×400 metres, and long jump amongst the 133 teams confirmed for this global championship.

Brume is poised to replicate her impressive performance, which earned her a silver medal at the previous edition of the games in 2022. At the upcoming event, she will be facing off against Tara Davis-Woodhall of the United States of America, who has achieved a distance of 7.14 metres in the long jump this season, amongst other elite athletes.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, with a record-breaking performance of 21.53m this season, is set to participate in the shot put event. He will aim to throw even further to increase his chances of winning a medal for the team.

Edose Ibadin has been selected for the 800-metre event as well as the men’s 4x400m relay team. Ibadin has set two Nigerian records during the indoor season, which suggests a promising performance to come.

Nwachukwu Dubem will be the sole participant for the team in the 400m event and will also join the squad consisting of Sikiru Adeyemi, Chidi Okezie, and Edose Ibadin to compete for a place in the final round of the men’s 4x400m relay competition.
