Doma United 2-0 Bayelsa United: Tigers overpower Prosperity Boys in cruise control

GOMBE (Made In Africa Sport) – In an impressive display at the Pantami Stadium, Doma United secured a 2-0 victory over Bayelsa United in matchday two of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) clash on Saturday, 7 October 2023.

The commanding performance by the Savannah Tigers saw them take control of the game from the outset, ultimately securing a well-deserved victory over the Prosperity Boys.

Doma took the lead in the 21st minute, with Andrew Majalisa showcasing his skill by delivering a superb indirect free-kick. The ball was fiercely placed lowly through the Bayelsa wall and nestled into the bottom corner, leaving the opposing goalkeeper, Kelvin Ogunga with no chance.

The team extended their advantage in the 58th minute when Charles Terwar roughly slotted home a goal following a finely executed team move.

Throughout the 90 minutes, Doma United’s performance was nothing short of dominant. Their desire on the field was evident as they continuously pressed forward, leaving Bayelsa struggling to create many clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Doma United’s victory elevates them to third place in the league table, despite their poor season opener in Awka. Meanwhile, Bayelsa United finds themselves level on three points but sandwiched among the pack in mid-table.

Reaction

Doma’s technical adviser, Akinade Onigbinde emphasizes on the importance of the win and his team’s ambition for the season.

“I am very happy, the first result from home is very important for us,” he said. “We are just starting, we see some lapses in the game for goal scoring, we created a lot of chances, but we wasted it. When we keep working, we will get the results.”

On his club’s ambition, he said; “We are contenders for the title, we are not in the league to pretend, we tried to be in Super 6 last season but this time around.”

Looking ahead, Doma United will aim to build on this impressive win as they prepare to face Sporting Lagos in their upcoming league encounter. On the other hand, Bayelsa United will be eager to bounce back from this disappointing result in their next fixture.
